Who is Cheddar Designs?

Cheddar Designs is the dynamic duo of Anne Farrar (short bio) and JVS (short bio). With a combined experience of 30+ years, these two know just a little about photography, design and printing.

Professional Photographer’s Only
All of Cheddar’s services are made available exclusively to professional photographers. You (or your client) will never find any pricing information on this blog, with the exception of our Custom Card Designs. New clients will be required to provide a Tax ID number and all accounts are verified over the phone.

Who is Anne Farrar?

Originally from Athens, Ohio, Anne Farrar has worked in and around the photo industry for 15 years. She began her visual journey by attending Ohio University’s Visual Communication program. After graduating in 1993 she began an internship as a photographer, which led to a full time position as a photographer and designer.

Her ultimate goal was to become a picture editor at a major news organization and she believed that learning the various aspects of storytelling would further that goal. Anne became a designer and informational graphics artist for a few years which enabled her to learn the ins and outs of news publishing and structure. Aspiring to become a picture editor, in 1997 she accepted a job at the Minneapolis Star-Tribune as a features picture editor. Within a year, she moved to The Dallas Morning News as a night photo editor.

Her time at The Dallas Morning News allowed her to work and edit some of the finest photojournalists in the industry. She’s edited political conventions, the Olympics, 9/11 disaster, the ongoing war in Iraq and Hurricane Katrina.

In 2006 she celebrated a Pulitzer Prize team win as a photo editor at The Dallas Morning News for coverage of Hurricane Katrina.

Always looking to expand her photographic experience, in 2005 Anne joined her husband, JVS (Joseph Victor Stefanchik), to create JVS Pictures. She works as a photographer and designer at the innovative photo studio which specializes in portraits, documentary weddings, commercial photography and design.

Who is JVS?

For over a decade, JVS has been capturing real-moments in real-time and hasn’t been afraid to use his flash along the way.

JVS began his studies at the School of Visual Arts in New York and furthered his education by attending the School of Journalism at Western Kentucky University. He applies the same lighting techniques he would use for a portrait or fashion shoot to his wedding coverage. His unique and pioneering use of off-camera lighting is what sets him apart and make his wedding images come alive.

JVS’ career as a wedding photojournalist began in 1996 after being approached by a close friend. She asked, “can you photograph my wedding the way you capture stories for the Morning News?” At the time, he was a staff photographer at The Dallas Morning News and the majority of his assignments included visual story telling from around the globe. Angola, Africa to the Panama Canal, his goal remained the same, show people what they cannot see. He applies this same philosophy to his wedding photography.

Highlights in JVS’ photojournalism career include winning the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism award for International Photojournalism as well as being named a Pulitzer Prize Finalist. Countless photojournalism contest wins date back to 1992.

JVS has been furthering the education of other photographers by teaching in-depth lighting workshops with the help of his highly educated and talented wife, Anne Farrar. The two bring 30+ years of combined experience to each Workshop they teach.

JVS has spoken on the local and national level, acted as one of the judges of the esteemed WPPI print competition and judged thousands of images for various photography competitions.

A master at inkjet printing, JVS was recently named a Red River Paper Pro.

For nearly 20 years JVS has been mastering the use of off-camera flash and he won’t miss the moment because “the light isn’t right.”
